IELTS (International English Language Testing Scheme) is one of the most recognized English proficiency test for work, study, and migration. It was developed to test the English expertise of people from non-English speaking countries.

Depending on the purpose of taking the test, there are two modules to choose from – IELTS General Training and IELTS Academic. The skills tested are listening, reading, writing, and speaking. The IELTS test is carried out in two forms – paper form and online test. This is to give the candidate the choice of taking the test in any form that is most convenient.

The Purpose of the IELTS Test

As part of the admission process, some colleges and universities request for IELTS test results as a proof of proficiency in English. IELTS has become a trusted means of examining a student’s command of the English language and it is accepted by over 10,000 institutions. Due to the fact that English will be the primary language of communication, the student must meet the minimum score set by the institution. The required scores may vary based on the institution, as well as the programme and course of study.

  1. Work

For professionals who wish to relocate, it will also be required to have a valid IELTS test result. This will ease your registration process as a professional in an English speaking country. Just as with schools, companies also have varying IELTS requirements.

  1. Migration

It is the dream of certain individuals to relocate to countries where English is the native language. IELTS test score is one of the requirements for permanent residency by the government of English speaking countries.

During visa application, it is equally required of the applicant to provide an IELTS test score. It is advised that you look up the IELTS requirements on the government website of the country you wish to relocate to be sure of the country’s IELTS requirements.
